Research Highlight

2023 Discovery of a Quantum Spin Nematic Phase in a Square-Lattice Iridate Nature 625, 7994, 264-269 (2024) 본 연구에서 제2세부과제의 핵심과제로 장기간에 걸쳐 연구한 사각격자 이리듐 산화물에서 공명 엑스선 산란과 라만 사란을 이용하여 스핀 사극자의 존재를 확인하였다. 네마틱이랑 고체와 액체의 성질을 동시에 가지는 물질상으로 스핀계에서도 유사한 상태가 존재할 것이라는 이론적인 예측이 반세기전에 있었지만 본 연구에서 세계최초로 그 존재가 실험적으로 확인되었다. 저온 반강자성 상태에서 스핀 쌍극자와 사극자가 동시에 존재함을 엑스선 산란의 간섭을 이용하여 스핀 성분 및 공간 분포 형태를 완전히 해독하였다.

2022 Steady Floquet-Andreev states in graphene Josephson junctions Nature 603, 421-426 (2022) 빛과 물질의 상호작용을 통해 새로운 양자 상태를 설계하는 것은 물리학 분야 전 반에 새로운 패러다임이 되어 가고 있다. 예를 들어 물질에 빛 등을 통해 시간에 대해 주기적인 외부 자극을 주면 물질의 본래 양자상태가 에너지 방향으로 복제되는 플로케 상태가 구현된다.

2021 Colossal angular magnetoresistance in ferrimagnetic nodal-line semiconductors Nature 599, 576-581 (2021) 최근 위상학적인 전자상태를 가지는 고체 물질에 대한 연구가 심화되면서, 자성과 위상학적 전자상태를 동시에 갖는 물질인 위상 자성체에 대한 연구 또한 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구팀은 자성을 띠는 반도체 물질에서 위상학적인 전자상태에 의한 초거대 각자기저항 현상을 최초로 발견했다.

2020 Artificial Relativistic Molecules Nature Communications 11, 815 (2020) 본 연구단의 단장그룹의 이차원물질연구는 주로 상호작용이 강한 이차원물질을 인위적으로 조절 조작하여 새로운 물성을 발현하는 것에 집중하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 상호작용이 강한 이차원물질 IrTe2을 활용하여 새로운 성질을 가지는 인위적인 원자단위구조를 형성하려 시도하였다.

2019 Emergent Honeycomb Network of Topological Excitations in Correlated Charge Density Wave NATURE COMMUNICATIONS 10, 4038 (2019) 본 연구단의 중점 연구분야 중 하나는 상호작용이 강한 이차원 물질(TaS2, IrTe2, Ta2NiSe5 등)에서의 이종계면 또는 도메인월(위상여기)이다. 올해는 본 연구단이 2016년 이후 높은 수준의 선도적인 성과를 내고 있는 1T-TaS2 계의 도메인월에 대한 연구를 확장 심화시켰다.

2018 Large anomalous Hall current induced by topological nodal lines in a ferromagnetic van der Waals semimetal Nature Materials 17, 794-799 (2018) 위상준금속은 전도띠와 원자가띠가 점 또는 선으로 만나면서 위상학적인 특이점을 만드는 물질이다. 위상물질의 전자는 모멘텀 공간에서 위상학적 특이점 근처를 지날 때 독특한 양자효과로 인해 가상의 자기장하에 있는 것 같이 행동한다.

2017 Switching chiral solitons for algebraic operation of topological quaternary digits Nature Physics 13, 444 (2017) 손지기(chirality, 카이랄성)는 수학, 화학, 물리학, 생물학 등 다양한 과학 분야에서 비대칭성을 가리키는 용어이며, 손을 뜻하는 그리스어에서 유래하였다. 왼손과 오른손이 서로 겹칠 수 없는 거울상 대칭이기 때문이다. 이런 손지기는 일상생활뿐만 아니라, 다양한 연구 분야에서 흥미로운 현상으로 나타난다.
