Tenure track research fellows for Electronic structure calculation and Synchrotron radiation spectroscopy

These positions will remain open for a minimum of 3 months after which they will close when qualified candidates are identified and/or hired.

Purpose

The Center for Artificial Low Dimensional Electronic Systems (CALDES) at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Pohang, Korea is seeking two tenure track research fellows in the research field for novel classes of low dimensional electronic systems such as atomic wires, atomic layers, 2D topological materials, and layered materials. The CALDES, led by Prof. Han Woong Yeom, is a collaborative nanoscience research center belonging to IBS, a newly established national research institute to lead the top notch basic science research of Korea.

Major Duties / Responsibilities

A.      Electronic structure calculation

l  Perform cross-cutting research collaboration with physicists, synthetic chemists, and materials scientists

l  Operate a theory / calculation team of a few post docs and graduate students

l  Perform independent research in the field of low dimensional electronic systems and topological materials

B.      Synchrotron radiation spectroscopy

l  Perform cross-cutting research collaboration with physicists, synthetic chemists, and materials scientists

l  Managing spin-polarized ARPES beamline in Pohang Light Source and develop / organize new SR spectroscopy activities

l  Perform independent research based on synchrotron radiation and free-electron lasers in Pohang Accelerator Laboratory

Qualifications required

 Possess strong background in DFT calculations (A) and synchrotron-radiation-based photoelectron and soft x-ray spectroscopies with expertise in instrumentation (B).

Appointment period & Salary

 The appointment is a full time tenure-track contract. The tenure evaluation will be made within six years. Starting salary ranges between $70,000 and $ 12,000 depending on career.
